White Ribbon Day
- 25 November 08

White Ribbon Day held on 25 November is an international initiative of UNIFEM Australia to show violence against women and girls is never OK.

In my capacity as a Community Development Worker I am a member of the Marrickville Leichhardt Domestic Violcence Liaison Committee. The committee made up of organisations working with domestic violence held a promotional stall at Market Town to raise awareness of Domestic Violence in the community.

Info packs and balloons were given to shoppers who were also invited to complete a Stop Sign - Hands are not for Hitting activity.

The committee would like to thank Rozelle News and Gifts, Nova 96.9, Child Abuse Prevention Service (CAPS), Coco Cola Amatil for promotional info pack items.

In another community activity project for White Ribbon Day, RNC approached Rozelle Public School to see if the aims of the White Ribbon Day - to change behaviours and attitudes of men and boys would be a project to compliment the schools education philosophy.

The Student Representative Council (SRC) decided White Ribbon was a campaign they wanted to be a part of and raised $256 by selling 128 ribbons and wrist bands.

Especially rewarding as a commuity worker was witnessing the boys reading and discussing the White Ribbon Day information and spreading the message at such a young age that violence against women and girls is never ok.
