Darling Street Fashion Parade
Celebrating World Environment Day Style
12 Jun 10

A fire on King Street waylaid a team of hair and make-up artists from ACMUSE (Australian College of Make-Up Artists and Special Effects) while rain bucketed down on Darling Street, Rozelle. Despite  the hurdles, volunteers, Rozelle Neighbourhood Centre (RNC) work experience students and staff  applied final touches for the parade to make it an event to remember.

After this last minute chaos, the fashion event came together and was an exciting display of local fashion due mainly to the busy contribution and enthusiasm of volunteers and local businesses. Amanda and Akiko our community development students on placement at RNC cut their teeth on sponsorship and coordination of the event, demonstrating amazing potential and uncovering the generosity of local business in the area, as a result, the Neighbourhood Centre was transformed for the night, with the support of over 25 local businesses.

We thank the MC, Fashion Stylist, Photographers, Models, Make-Up and Hair Artists who all generously volunteered their time and talents. It rained on our parade, but the rain didn’t stop the community  coming together to celebrate World Environment Day in style!

Locals modeled over 50 outfits generously provided by: Bella Emporio, Cassandra’s Closet, Lynne White Crane, Mint Condition, Salvos, Sara Camara, The Devil Wears, Tzarina’s & U Turn. Fashion was voluntarily and expertly styled by Alison McKenzie. A local mum commented ‘we’re just ordinary women who looked fantastic on the night, it shows what you can buy locally’. The parade focused on fashion with sustainable elements, reclaimed and recycled vintage fabrics and clothing. It crossed generations and styles reflecting the range and richness of choice shopping locally in Rozelle.

Donations made on the night went to Climate Change Balmain  Rozelle to support their work raising environmental awareness and action in the local area. The parade celebrated its success  thanks to the Red Lion Hotel who donated our after party. Every contribution to the parade highlighted the richness, diversity and support of the Rozelle community and shopping strip to RNC.

Many Thanks also to the following local businesses for generously supporting this event: Alley & Moi Bags, Beanstalk Performing Arts, Children of the Revolution Shoes, Endota Spa, Hatch, Jodie McGregor Flowers, Persian Rug Bazaar, Potteround, Queen Bee Balloon and Party Shop, Rozelle Picture Framing, Strudel Baron, Sushi Bar Rozelle and Sydney Theatre Company.
